Bob and Danny Weller are members of a remarkable musical family that has a distinctive place in the jazz and improvised music world of Southern California. As a pianist, drummer, and composer, Bob has performed with a cadre of influential artists, including Joe Pass, Bertram Turetzky, Mose Allison, George Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lisle Ellis, Benny Golson, Kenny Baron, Herb Ellis, Anthony Davis, and many others. He has also recorded and performed with experimental/free jazz/avante garde artists including George Lewis, Nathan Hubbard, Lisle Ellis, Vinny Golia, Jason Robinson, David Borgo and wife Ellen Weller. Bassist and composer Danny Weller (also a violinist and percussionist) currently attends the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, studying with bassists Cecil McBee and John Lockwood. Danny has recorded with The Rabbinical School Dropouts (Tzadik). Multi-instrumentalist and scholar Ellen Weller divides her musical performance activities between improvisation, jazz, klezmer and classical music. She has appeared at creative music festivals throughout the West Coast and has performed with George Lewis, Vinny Golia, Lisle Ellis, Anthony Davis, Muhal Richard Abrams, Jason Robinson, Nathan Hubbard Skeleton Key Orchestra, Lesli Dalaba, Carla Kihlstadt, Ernesto Diaz-Infante, and many others. Currently the youngest of the Weller’s, trumpeter, drummer, and electronics musician Charlie Weller is active throughout San Diego in the jazz scene, within musical theatre, and in big bands. He has recorded with George Lewis, Lisle Ellis, Marcos Fernandes, and others. The Wellers are joined by New York-based drummer Cliff Almond, whose versatility and creativity contributes greatly to this wonderful recording.
